Giancarlo Caracuzzo
What first hits you about Caracuzzo’s art are the multi-faceted aspects of his talent. A veteran of the comic industry, Giancarlo worked for Editions Robert Laffont, Editions Dupuis, Sergio Bonelli Editore, Devil's Due Publishing, Granata Press and other publishers. He seems perfectly at ease drawing (or painting) comic or cartoon characters, surreal images or pin-ups. Take a look for yourself: the images below are just a small sample of what the man is capable of producing.
I am glad to announce that some of his art is now available for sale on Parigi Books.
THE LAST RESORT #1 OUT NOW!
Giancarlo's new five issue mini-series by IDW Publishing is finally out. Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray and with covers by Darwyn Cooke and Amanda Conner, The Last Resort is a "zombie epic that pays homage to 1970s exploitation films and disaster
movies like Airport and Towering Inferno. In an entertaining and darkly
over-the-top celebration of gore and sex, The Last Resort transforms a Caribbean paradise into a biological wasteland populated with homicidal flesh-eating vacationers!".
Here are some of the very positive comments from around the web:
"The art is self assured, self confident and more in line with BD albums than the usual American comic fare... Purely from the initial setup, it’s the best zombie comic I’ve read yet." Rich Johnston - Bleedingcool.com
"(Caracuzzo) handles
the initial burst of horror well, but distinguishes himself by
depicting a fairly distinct array of characters... The color employs a bit of a wash that simultaneously achieves a bit of a grainy effect (like the awesome Italian zombie
films of yesteryear) and an almost pastel vibe that befits the island
setting." Troy Brownfield - Newsarama.com
"The art was as beautiful as expected the colorful characters have
unique and varied features and body types. Great expression and poses.
Caracuzzo does great work with the backgrounds and establishing shots,
and really sells the humor in the book." Aris Iliopoulos - Comicsnexus.com
"Giancarlo Caracuzzo's artwork looks like a watercolor brought to life.
If Palmiotti and Gray's writing is like a Hollywood script, Caracuzzo's
art is the perfect storyboard." David Chapman Playmagazine - Recommended reading
"The art, done by Giancarlo Caracuzzo, is gorgeous and well done... If good, schlocky horror is
your desire, this book is definitely worth your money!" Josh Gorfain - Examiner.com
"Caracuzzo delivers and then some." Doug Zawisza - Comic Book Resources.com
"... the comic’s art was basically flawless and provides a great visual story with some very distinct character looks." Brandon Borzelli's - Geek Goggle Reviews on ComicList.com
