1848 signed letter by John Young Mason, then Secretary of the Navy in the Cabinet of President James K. Polk, addressed to the Honorable Henry Alexander Wise. "Sir, I have received your letter of the 28th ult. with its enclosures. The letter addressed to Mr. De Selding I have read, and sent to him. He has grossly misrepresented the fact in his letter to you. I showed him your official report in regard to the transaction as conclusive that his client had no claim to the money, and hence his correspondence with you. I have the highest opinion of Mr. Ferguson -- and have no idea of disturbing him. Very respectfully your ob. svt., J. Y. Mason. Hon. Henry A. Wise. Accomac County, Va."
