First edition from this publisher. [16], 436pp + [4]pp of index. Contemporary full calf, spine decorated in gold, gilt edges, marbled pastedown endpapers. Engraved title, engraved coat of arms, forty-six full-page engraved emblems (marked 0 to 45), initials, head-pieces, and tail-pieces. Considered one of the most popular emblem books of the 17th Century. Bookplate of Fletcher Battershall on the front pastedown endpaper. Rubbing to covers, gilt decorations on the spine are almost completely worn. Lower corner of the front free endpaper was cut. Inside mostly clean but for a small stain affecting the lower edge of a few of the leaves. A very good copy. Backer-Sommervogel IV.514. Graesse III.387. ; Octavo.
