Brown half calf and marbled boards. A collection of several pamphlets pertaining mostly to politics. Three of them bear the signature of Sir William Jolliffe, one was inscribed to him by the author, and one includes an autograph letter signed by the author. Includes the following titles: 1) Character of the Late Lord Viscount Sackville by Richard Cumberland, London, Printed for C. Dilly, 1785. 2) O Tempora! O Mores! or, The Best New-Year's Gift for a Prime Minister by the Rev. William Scott, Printed for J. Wilkie, [1774]. 3) Trial. The King, on the Prosecution of Gwyllym Lloyd Wardle, Esq. M.P. against Francis Wright, Daniel Wright, and Mary Anne Clarke for a Conspiracy..., London, Printed by W. Flint, 1809. 4) Letter to His Grace the Duke of Wellington, K. G., upon the State of the English Navy, in Comparison with that of Other Navies by A Flag Officer [Edward Hawker], London, Hatchard and Son, 1840. Laid in is a letter to Sir William Jolliffe signed by Admiral Hawker and dated June 1840 in which he asserts that he might even have used a stronger tone in decrying the state of weakness of Great Britain, especially in comparison with France. It is interesting to note that in the appendix, in which the names of the ships being commissioned both by England and France are given, there are several annotations and changes to the original text in pen. 5) The State of Ireland Considered, and Measures Proposed for Restoring Tranquillity to that Country by Lord Alvanley, London, John Ollivier, 1841. 6) Remarks on the Inclosure of Commons and Wastes, (Not Village Greens) with Recognition of the Indefinite Rights of the Poor, as Well as the Definite Rights of the Rich... by Thomas Alcock, London, James Ridgway, 1845. This title is inscribed by Alcock, a Member of Parliament, to Sir William Jolliffe. 7) The Following Interesting Letter Has Been Addressed by Sir John Gladstone... 8) The Deluge: A Poem by Viscount Maidstone, London, Chapman and Hall, 1853. 9) Happy England.
